The Center Of Gravity
The centre of gravity is the largest change by far when it comes to the newest SM8 vokey wedges.
Previously Titleist engineered their wedges to have a centre of gravity that was low on their wedges. Though when the SM6 model was released Titleist revealed that they were raising the center of gravity on these wedges.
This also included an added weight behind the top line of the sand wedges and lob wedges of the SM6 and SM7
The negative of this added weight to the top line of these wedges is that is also moved the center of gravity back in these wedges.
With the Vokey SM8 Titleist extended the hosel of the wedges. As well as added a tungsten weight to the toe of the club head.
Titleist states that by doing this they were able to move the center of gravity forward. Titleist stated that this movement of the centre of gravity forward in these high loft wedges results in an increase of 7% in MOI. As well as helping the golfer square the face of the wedge.
This increased moment of inertia or MOI will increase the forgiveness on shots left to right.
The Price
The other major factor that makes up the difference of these two golf sets is the price. Obviously, since the Vokey SM8 is the newer model it is the more expensive option.
As of writing this the price difference between these two wedges is $40. As the Vokey SM7’s are priced at $119 while the Vokey SM8’s are priced at $159. This is really not a huge discrepancy in price and if you’re only planning to purchase a single wedge.
Though if you are planning to purchase a sand wedge, gap and a lob wedge you may find the difference in price to be too large.
It is difficult to say if the price increase is worth it as that all depends on your budget.

100% Inspected Spin Milled Grooves
Both of these awesome Titleist wedges featured 100% inspected spin milled grooves. This means that each and every one of the grooves on these Titleist clubs are inspected at the Titleist facility before being shipped out.
These grooves are cut especially sharp in order to produce even more rpm on the ball after contact is made.
Each of these Vokey wedges is also heat-treated. This ensures a longer lasting spin for the lifetime of the wedge.
Progressive Center Of Gravity Based On Loft
Though we talked previously about the center of gravity being the main difference between these two wedges. It is worth mentioning that they both do posess this feature of a progressive center of gravity.
Based on the loft of the club you choose you will notice the centre of gravity will be higher or lower. With higher loft clubs the centre of gravity will be moved higher on the clubface and the CG will be lower on the clubface in lower lofted clubs.
This is done in order to match the centre of gravity with the impact position of each club.
Who Is It For
Vokey SM8
As we stated earlier there is not a huge difference between these two models in terms of performance but the biggest factor is the center of gravity.
The center of gravity on the Vokey SM8 is moved further forward when compared to the SM7. This results in a higher MOI of what Titleist states is 7%.
This allows for more forgiveness on shots that miss left or right. This means that if you are a golfer that struggles with the direction of your chips then this feature is going to be beneficial.
If you are deiciding between these two clubs and you want the option with the highest level of forgiveness then the Titleist Vokey SM8 is your top pick.
Vokey SM7
The Vokey SM7 wedges are the best option for any golfers looking to shop on a budget. As we have stated several times throughout this article the changes between the Vokey SM8 vs SM7 are relatively small.
Aside from the single Centre of gravity feature you will not find many differences between these clubs.
Since they have a price tag that is roughly forty dollars apart. It makes sense that this club is the better option for any golfer looking to save a couple of bucks when deciding between these wedges.
