Golf Bag Etiquette – Where Can You Put It Down

Due to the rise in popularity of backpack strap golf bags many golfers now prefer to walk the course. Now that many golfers no longer leave their bags on their golf carts it raises the question of where you are allowed to put your golf bag down.

Placing Your Bag On The Green

The first thing you need to know about carry bags is that you cannot place them on the green. Regardless of the quality of the club this is a section of the course you never place your golf bag.

The reasoning behind this is that the green is the portion of the course that is most easily affected when made contact with. In other words placing your bag down on the green is likely going to leave a mark.

There is a reason that you fix the ball marks that hit on the green but not on any other locations.

Walking across the green with a bag on your back is another hot button issue in the golf community. The majority of courses out there aren’t going to have any problem with golfers walking across the green with your bag on your back.

That being said some uptight courses may have an issue with this. The idea being that the extra weight on your back allows for your feet to make larger indentations in the green. In our opinion, this is a pretty strict rule.

You are not going to weigh each golfer before they start their round so why should a forty pound bag make a difference?

Either way you should know it is almost never okay to place your bag on the green but almost always okay to walk across a green with your bag on.

Placing Your Bag On The Tee Blocks

Placing your carry bag down on the tee blocks is another unsure area for golfers. Again, in most situations placing your bag down on the tee blocks is going to be okay.

If you think about it placing your bag here is not going to have any affect on the course like it would when placed on the green.

Seeing as though most tee blocks are hacked up with divots most courses shouldn’t have any issues with you doing this.

If you want to be extra careful about following the proper etiquette you can give your course a call and see what their thoughts are on the matter.

But in our opinion you are going to find ninety-nine out of one hundred golf clubs will be okay with you resting your bag on the tee block.

Putting Your Bag Down On The Fairway?

Putting your stand bag down on the fairway is something that is going to be allowed at every course. No matter how pristine the condition of the fairway the course will always allow you to place your bag down here.

After all, a drive in the center of the fairway would really slow the pace of play down if you had to walk all the way to the rough to retrieve your bag.
