Trouble Golf Game – How To Play

Trouble is an incredibly fun golf game that awards you points based on how much you screw up! Instead of the typical golf side games which give golfers points for winning the hole this game is the opposite.

Golfers are awarded points for shots that have a bad result. The worse the result the more points you are awarded. The golfer at the end of the round with the most points is the loser. The golfer with the least points is the winner.

Here is the scoring system for trouble:

1 point: Per water Ball, hitting a staked area, Out of Bounds shot, a bunker or a 3-putt

2 points: For not getting out of bunker or hitting from bunker to another

3 points: For a 4-putt

5 points: For a whiff

As you can see the points are awarded based on how badly you failed on your shot. A miss-hit ball into the woods is only going to land you one point. While a full whiff of the golf ball is going to give you five.

Who Is It For

This is one of those golf side games that is ideal for high handicappers. The reason for this is because this point scoring system is attached to situations that are much more common for high handicap golfers.

A low or mid handicapper is almost never going to whiff on a ball. They will also rarely four-putt, but when it comes to high handicappers these things can happen.

If you are playing with a group of high handicappers this is the perfect game. It takes those shots into the water from an awkward moment to a celebration from the rest of your group.

We found this golf side game is great for beginners to get into more enjoyment out of the game of golf.

Strategies To Win The Trouble Golf Game

Most golfers that play this game do not use many strategies. They typically play out the round as usual and if they happen to end up in trouble they will accumulate points.

But if you are competitive like me you are probably wondering what strategies you can use to be successful at this golf side game.

One easy way to score better when playing trouble is to get rid of the driver. High handicappers struggle with their driver more than any other club. It is much more likely you lose a ball or put one out of bounds when you are using your driver.

This is because the vast majority of high handicappers tend to slice the golf ball.

Another strategy you can use is to utilize layup shots. Layup shots are shots that never have the intention of making the green. They simply set you up so that your next shot has a good shot at the green.

These shots will be more likely to keep you out of trouble and will give you a better chance to put the ball close to the pin on your next shot. This will give you a better chance of avoiding three and four putts.
